吸取他人的长处，来弥补自己的短处：善于取长补短，才能不断进步。
吸取别人的长处，来弥补自己的不足之处。也泛指在同类事物中吸取这个的长处来弥补那个的短处。
《孟子·滕文公上》：“今滕绝长补短，将五十里也，犹可以为善国。”
